State Rep. Lee Chatfield welcomed Cheboygan County resident Johnathan Rand (third from left), author of the Michigan Chillers and American Chillers book series, to the state Capitol yesterday. He presented Rand with a tribute, accompanied by Sen. Wayne Schmidt and Rep. Sue Allor.

“Johnathan Rand has captured the imagination of kids everywhere with his books,” Rep. Chatfield said. “Anyone who is able to draw young people away from television, phones and games to read and expand their imagination, should be commended. March has been devoted to highlighting the importance of reading, and there’s no better way to kick off reading month than with books written by great northern Michigan authors.”

Rep. Chatfield will be visiting several area elementary schools in the coming weeks to read to students in recognition of March is Reading Month.

“I always look forward to visiting our schools,” Rep. Chatfield added. “As a former teacher, I love being back in the classroom and reading with our next generation of leaders.”
