State Rep. Edward Canfield will join Huron County commissioners in hosting a town hall meeting on Friday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m.
The meeting will focus on hydraulic fracturing, or fracking which is a drilling process high-pressure water mixture is directed at rock to release the gas inside. Rep. Canfield, R-Sebewaing, said a background on the practice of fracking and current fracking operations throughout Michigan will be discussed as well as how it affects thumb communities.
“Although the board passed a resolution opposing fracking in June, the issue is managed at the state and federal level, which has raised questions among members of the community,” Rep. Canfield said. “We want to make sure we provide the most information possible and get some of those questions answered.”
The town hall, which will be held at the Huron Expo Center, will feature speakers from the Michigan Environmental Council and Michigan Oil and Gas Association. Presentations will be followed by a question and answer session at the end. Light refreshments will be provided.
Those with questions are encouraged to contact Rep. Canfield’s office by phone at at 517-373-0476, or by email at EdwardCanfield@house.mi.gov.
