State Rep. Brandt Iden of Oshtemo Township issued the following statement after Pfizer was awarded state grants to support a new facility planned for Portage, including a $1 million performance-based grant and a tax capture valued at $10.5 million through the Good Jobs for Michigan program. The awards were approved today by the Michigan Strategic Fund Board:
“Pfizer has been a fantastic community partner for years, and this new investment proves its commitment to Kalamazoo County and the state of Michigan. This project is a great example of how we’re building a better future with better-paying jobs.
“I supported the Good Jobs for Michigan plan when it was approved by the state Legislature last year, and today’s announcement demonstrates why we need this program. It’s a key step in ensuring Michigan’s economic momentum will continue well into the future – coupled with our earlier efforts to improve our tax structure and eliminate burdensome, unnecessary regulations. The Pfizer announcement is yet another sign we are on the right path.”
