Rep. Allor issues statement on new PFAS commission
RELEASE|March 26, 2019

State Rep. Sue Allor, of Wolverine, issued the following statement in response to the governor’s creation of a new panel to study the water advisory limit for PFAS:

“I applaud Governor Whitmer building on the work performed by the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team (MPART) over the past 15 months in working to protect the safety of our state’s drinking water and the health of all Michigan families. I have supported PFAS investigation every step of the way and urge the governor’s commission to seek sound, science-backed policies that hold up to rigorous scrutiny. Michigan families deserve firm answers they can trust.

“Michigan has led the way in PFAS detection and response. When contamination came to light, we quickly adopted the Environmental Protection Agency’s drinking water advisory limit as our environmental cleanup standard—to ensure no polluted site goes undetected – and we have continued to advance our understanding of how PFAS moves through our environment. We must continue to lead the way.

“As the science around PFAS expands, we know that our ability to detect smaller and smaller amounts of this contaminant in our environment improves every day. However, our knowledge of how to clean up PFAS efficiently and completely requires further development. I hope that the governor’s committee will focus their efforts on all aspects of drinking water safety, including cleanup protocols. Our people and our water are too precious to leave these questions unanswered.”
