Rep. Albert joins House Appropriations Committee for 2019-20 legislative session
RELEASE|January 17, 2019

State Rep. Thomas Albert is joining the House Appropriations Committee for the new legislative session,  protecting Michigan taxpayers while helping shape the state’s investments in education, law enforcement, the prison system and several other areas.

Committee assignments for the Michigan House’s 2019-20 legislative term were announced this week by Speaker Lee Chatfield.

Albert’s background makes him a perfect fit for the committee charged with wisely investing taxpayer money while crafting the state government budget. He previously served as a committee chair leading reforms to make Michigan’s public retirement systems stronger and more efficient, and before joining the Legislature worked as an investor for the State of Michigan Retirement Systems.

“This is an issue of prioritization and doing what’s best for Michigan – both for today and tomorrow,” Albert said. “We must continue making state government more efficient so we can focus investments on schools, roads and other priorities most important to hard-working taxpayers and families. Our future depends on it.”

Albert, of Lowell, will lead the Appropriations Committee panel dealing with the state prison system, handled through the Michigan Department of Corrections – a significant employer in the 86th House District. He also will serve on appropriations subcommittees specializing in school funding, the Michigan State Police and services to military veterans, and agriculture.
