Rep. Afendoulis responds to governor’s budget vetoes
RELEASE|October 1, 2019

Rep. Lynn Afendoulis of Grand Rapids Township issued the following statement today in response to Gov. Whitmer’s budget vetoes:

“The governor wants more money for roads – but only on the backs of Michigan drivers and their families.

“She says she wants more money to fix roads and bridges, but she shot down our plan to provide an additional $375 million for repairs without tax increases. Why? Because the money doesn’t come from tax increases – it comes from good, responsible budgeting that invests in what matters most. And that’s not what she’s interested in.

“She doesn’t realize Michiganders have spoken loud and clear – they can’t afford the governor’s tax increase, and they won’t accept it.

“It’s time to put this budget silliness behind us and get back to working in partnership to build a better Michigan. I’m hoping the governor will come back to the bargaining table and be involved in that partnership.”
