Rep. Afendoulis issues statement on Wolverine’s PFAS settlement
RELEASE|December 10, 2019

State Rep. Lynn Afendoulis of Grand Rapids Township today issued the following statement after Wolverine Worldwide announced an agreement to address PFAS contamination in Plainfield and Algoma townships:

“From the beginning, I have said the most important thing is to get clean water to the people; it is a basic human need and right. This settlement does that for residents whose lives have been turned upside down by PFAS contamination. This is a solid outcome for the people of Plainfield and Algoma townships, and it was the right thing to do.

“This will take years to implement and there will undoubtedly be many questions along the way. I am committed to working with the townships, state departments and Wolverine Worldwide to make sure families in our community are well-informed and well-served.

“We in Michigan are blessed to be the beneficiaries of the second-largest body of fresh water in the world. We also must be responsible stewards of this treasure so that those who live and visit here can be confident that Michigan water is pure water.”
