Lawmaker also continues as chair of House Oversight Committee
State Rep. Tom McMillin, R-Rochester Hills, on Thursday was named to chair the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules for the 2013 legislative session.
“This joint committee focuses on details and accountability, which are some of my strengths,” McMillin said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to make the state’s agencies and departments more transparent and accountable.”
The panel is comprised of five members of the House and Senate and is responsible for the oversight of administrative rules proposed by state agencies. It also reviews proposed legislation to determine if rule-making authority is, or should be, necessary to carry out the intent of the proposed measures. Sen. John Papageorge, R-Troy, will serve as chair in 2014.
McMillin also was selected to again chair the House Oversight Committee.
“I anticipate continuing the bipartisan manner in which we accomplished reform on the Oversight Committee last legislative session,” McMillin said. “The committee will work to strengthen the Freedom of Information Act and other liberty issues that are facing us. We must continue to review reports from the Auditor General that makes government more accountable as well, which will in turn control spending.”
McMillin also will serve on the House Education, Financial Liability Reform, and Regulatory Reform committees.
