MacMaster, a second-term lawmaker, served as vice chair of the subcommittee last term.
“Our corrections system is one of the largest areas within our state budget and we need to find ways to more efficiently budget to pay for our prisons,” said MacMaster, R-Kewadin. “We began these reforms over the past two years and I am ready to continue these efforts this term as chair of the subcommittee. Ensuring that our prisons are run properly and efficiently is important to our state’s public safety and I look forward to getting to work.”
In addition, MacMaster will serve as vice chair of the Appropriations Subcommittees on Community Colleges; Military and Veterans Affairs; and Michigan State Police.
“Last term we completely changed how the state budget is done in Michigan,” MacMaster said. “Now our budget focuses on efficiencies and paying down debt based on using real dollar projections. This is responsible leadership that will continue as the 97th Legislature gets underway.”
