LANSING, Mich. — House Natural Resources Committee Chair State Rep. Andrea LaFontaine, R-Columbus Township, was joined by Michigan Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Chief Russ Mason today, who gave an update on Operation Freedom Outdoors. Begun in October 2013, Operation Freedom Outdoors is a 5 year plan gradually phasing in outdoor activities that can be accessed by individuals and veterans of all abilities, including those in wheelchairs or with prosthetics. Such activities include kayak and canoe launches, fishing opportunities, target-shooting stations, bird watching and trails for small- and big-game hunting. Veterans have had a hand in the creation of the program, which has provided employment opportunities for veterans who were previously unemployed with both public and private sector firms.
