LaFave to play pivotal role in reducing car insurance rates
RELEASE|January 22, 2019

U.P. lawmaker appointed to specific car insurance reform panel

State Rep. Beau LaFave has been tapped to serve on a new committee specifically tasked with crafting a solution to lower car insurance rates for all Michigan drivers.

LaFave, of Iron Mountain, said the House Select Committee on Reducing Car Insurance Rates will focus on car insurance and work to deliver a lasting remedy to the state’s controversial no-fault insurance system, which forces Michigan drivers to pay the highest car insurance rates in the nation.

“Delivering genuine reforms that reduce car insurance rates once and for all is unquestionably one of the biggest priorities I set out to Lansing to accomplish,” LaFave said. “For the past two years I have been a strong advocate of multiple plans aiming to fix our state’s controversial no-fault system, and nothing has come of it. This committee specifically targeting car insurance costs is a great start to an open and honest deliberation process, and I look forward to representing the Upper Peninsula’s voice as we craft a lasting solution for all Michigan drivers.”

The House Select Committee on Reducing Car Insurance Rates will be one of a select few panels with the authority to report legislation to the House floor for consideration this term.
