State Rep. Steve Johnson today introduced legislation to ensure Michigan utility customers own and control their personal energy usage data.
“Technology is rapidly developing and shows no signs of slowing down,” said Johnson, R-Wayland. “As technology progresses, so does the need for individual control of personal information and data.”
Johnson’s bill simply states that a utility customer controls and owns their electricity and natural gas usage information and data. Any requests for information other than billing purposes must be approved by the utility customer.
House Bill 5318 has been referred to the House Energy Committee for further consideration.
