Legislation supported by state Rep. Mary Whiteford streamlining the application process for a windshield disability placard was approved today by the Michigan House.

The bill allows a disability placard to display only the first letter and last three digits of the disabled person’s driver’s license number or official state personal identification card.

Michigan statute currently requires that a disability windshield placard display the first letter and the last three digits or the first letter and the last four digits of the driver’s official state personal identification card.

“A consistent, simplified standard is important for our disabled citizens,” said Whiteford, of Casco Township.

House Bill 4574 now advances to the Senate for consideration.
