The Michigan House today approved legislation which will save local communities money on administering elections.
House Bill 4171, sponsored by state Rep. Brad Jacobsen, is part of an effort to modernize the election process by transferring the duties of local canvassing boards to the county level.
“We are always looking for ways to help local government be more efficient and save money. This legislation helps in both of those areas,” said Jacobsen, R-Oxford. “Common-sense efforts like this keep elections running smoothly while stopping the duplication of efforts in the election process.”
The consolidation plan was included in the 2013-2014 House Republican Action Plan, which can be reviewed at www.gophouse.com.
HBs 4169, 4170 and 4171 now head to the Senate for consideration.
