State Rep. Joseph Graves today applauded Gov. Rick Snyder for declaring a state of disaster relating to recent flooding throughout the state, including in Genesee County.

“Our area has seen a significant amount of rain over the past month which has left many of our communities dealing with severe flooding,” Graves said. “I have been very impressed with how our local area has come together in dealing with this flooding. The damage in our communities has been severe and this declaration of disaster will provide our area with the necessary aid to get back to normal.”

The declaration will ensure that all possible resources, in accordance with the Michigan Emergency Management Plan, are provided to assist the local response to the flooding,  The governor has asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to join state and local officials later this week to assess the extent of damage to homes, businesses, public facilities and infrastructure.

Today’s declaration included 19 counties and two cities in West Michigan.
