State Rep. Ray Franz, R-Onekama, welcomed Sgt. Major Dan Lincoln (second from left) of the Michigan Army National Guard who served in Afghanistan from 2010-2011, to sit with him in the House chamber on Wednesday evening during Gov. Rick Snyder’s State of the State address. Also pictured with Franz prior to the governor’s speech, from left, Patrick Lafferty, state adjutant for American Legion Department of Michigan; Douglas Williams, legislative affairs chairman for the American Legion Department of Michigan and The Commanders Group of Michigan; and Jason Allen, senior deputy director for the Michigan Department of Military and Veteran Affairs.
Franz, who served as chair of the House Military and Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security Committee last session, said the governor’s third State of the State included good news for veterans.
“I was very excited to hear about the veterans’ initiatives the governor laid out, especially the developing more education and job opportunities for them, as well as separating the Veterans Affairs agency so they can concentrate more effectively on getting the services to our veterans,” Franz said.
