Chairman Wentworth responds to MCCA rate reduction
RELEASE|November 13, 2019

State Rep. Jason Wentworth, chair of the House Select Committee on Reducing Car Insurance Rates, today issued the following statement regarding the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) lowering the annual per-vehicle assessment by 55 percent beginning July 2020:

“This is the first real, clear indication of how substantial the no-fault car insurance reforms we approved this year will be for drivers across Michigan and their pocketbooks. To put it in perspective, Michigan drivers have not seen an MCCA fee of $100 since 2003. It has been nearly two decades since families have seen rates this low, and it’s all because of the bipartisan solution we crafted together.

“A lot of work went into fixing a broken system holding back drivers and their finances, including four months of research and poring over every aspect of the no-fault system. We heard from thousands of drivers across the state and remained committed to deliver significant, long-lasting savings they could see and feel.

“The MCCA announcing it’s lowering the annual per-vehicle assessment is a big win for Michigan’s 7 million drivers, and I am happy to see savings already resulting from our new law.”
