Rep. Shane Hernandez of Port Huron – chair of the House Appropriations Committee — today issued the following statement after House approval of the K-12 schools budget:

“Our schools budget is a key part of an overall budget demonstrating how to invest more in what’s most important to Michigan families without raising their taxes. We are prioritizing spending to invest in our future.

“All children deserve a quality education, no matter where they live and no matter what they do after graduation. This budget further closes the funding gap between districts so children are treated equally. It supports students who are preparing for college and students who plan to enter the workforce right away.

“This measure won bipartisan support because it keeps Michigan on the right path. I look forward to working together and continuing that effort with approval of more budget bills next week.”
