The National Parks Service turns 98 years old today and, as a special gift to celebrate the momentous day, park admission fees are being waived! There are a total of 401 national parks for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy across the United States.
Michigan is home to five of those national parks, including Isle Royale National Park, Keweenaw National Historic Park, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, River Raisin National Battlefield Park and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The natural gems draw international attention and are a key part of the booming tourist industry in the Great Lake State.
State and national parks are both an excellent way to learn about conservation efforts, experience wildlife and to build an appreciation for what each state has to offer in wilderness wonders. Take some time to pack up some sunblock, trail snacks and your sense of adventure to check out a state park today!
