Bills approved today would help with prevention of scrap metal theft

The House approved House Bills 4593 and 4595 today. They would help with the prevention of scrap metal theft and resale across Michigan.

This is a particularly bad problem in the city of Detroit where abandoned houses being stripped are contributing to the devastation of neighborhoods.

Speaker of the House Jase Bolger saw the impact of this firsthand earlier this week on his tour of Detroit neighborhoods and he’s happy both sides of the aisle worked so well together on this issue to get these bills to final approval today.

Prior to the bills passing with overwhelming support from both sides of the aisle in the House today, the debate was more of an opportunity for individual Republican and Democrat members to speak highly of how well their colleagues worked together on this issue.
